Saber

A sword with curved blade. While a straight-blade weapon cuts solid it's penetrativeness in soft substances is low. A curved blade doesn't split solids but carves through them, penetrating deep within. A scimitar is designtd for slicing hits primarily at undefended parts of a body. A light and handy weapon. It was used mainly for light cavalry. A european type scimitar was about a meter long and about 1.9 kilos of weight.
